Whether it’s January’s introduction of “Facebook Stories,” or Instagram’s launching of live video for their Stories last November, it seems every month brings us something new in social media. Between the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, and a long Presidents’ Day weekend, February has been more eventful than usual for digital marketing.

A reported 111.3 million people tuned in to watch the Super Bowl this year — however, we think it’s safe to assume a good number of those viewers were just there for the commercials. From well-known brands like Coca-Cola and Budweiser to new faces like It’s a 10 (a haircare brand), the anticipated Super Bowl ads didn’t disappoint. With a majority of the ads including subtle social or political messages, viewers were sure to voice their opinions and reactions to the ads all over social media. According to Adweek, brands that aired socially conscious ads received 275% more online chatter than the typical ads.

If you happened to miss all the noise from the big game, there was still plenty of digital marketing news this month to keep you busy. Twitter predicted over 31.4 million Tweets related to #valentines, Google rolled out some new functions (again), and Facebook launched new ranking signals, added GIFs to video ads, and plan to make changes to YouTube mobile ads.
